ARTGERECHT: OBSERVATIONS ON TRAVEL JOURNALISM

Content-Partnerschaft – How RIU benefits

Whether it is a feature story that inspires readers to follow in the writer‘s footsteps, a complex topic turned into an easy-to-understand interview, or a biography that is absolutely memorable, our team of experienced editors has mastered the journalistic craft as well as contemporary, emotional storytelling.

Quality is becoming a scarce commodity

Every week, we create newspaper and e-paper pages, as well as online articles, for clients such as the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (NOZ) and the Neue Westfälische (NW). Over time, we have witnessed a significant shift in travel journalism. This shift is defined by the ongoing consolidation of editorial teams, budget constraints, and working conditions that make traditional press trips difficult for many outlets to justify. Authentic, well-written texts are increasingly hard to come by.

Stories bridge the gap in newsrooms

Against this backdrop, and alongside traditional press releases that often take the form of purely factual reports, we offer high-quality narrative content for RIU—such as biographies, interviews, or story telling. Such pieces are highly attractive to travel editors, providing them with a „ready-to-publish“ alternative that closes content gaps at no cost to them.

These stories, distributed by RIU, can be targeted at editorial offices and other news distributors  via your own contacts or established channels like „ots“ (German Press Agency/dpa) or the service portal „Pressetreff“:

www.newsaktuell.de/ots
www.pressetreff.de

We can also adapt content for social media and online use, maximising impact and the potential for reaching interested audiences organically.

How the content is created

Stories can be developed during a specific trip or an on-site visit. For interviews, telephone or video conferences are highly efficient. Alternatively, we can interview RIU colleagues and draft pieces based on first-hand accounts, or conduct desk-based research for destination guides.

Investment & Costs

We offer flexible payment solutions: transparent hourly billing or a tailored monthly packages. A typical package includes two to three articles per month and full editorial coordination for €1,500 to €2,000.

We can tailor this offer to your specific needs and actively support you in developing new topics. Travel expenses are billed separately.

Conclusion & Potential

Strategic storytelling bridges the gap between hard news and advertising. For RIU, our role is clear: we generate high-quality coverage that requires significantly less effort and lower costs than traditional press trips or classic ads, while increasing your media presence sustainably.

The „South Africa“ travel story represents an innovative format newly developed for the Sunday ePaper. The concept: trips are presented in a story telling format. With a single click, they can book a hotel or a trip directly via a link. Feedback so far has been very positive.

We would be happy to offer a free “trial run” featuring a destination of your choice, along with the corresponding link directing users to the RIU Hotels & Resorts booking website.

This is supported by a commission model where approximately 10% of the travel price per booking goes to the publisher. The exact percentage is negotiable. Stories created within our content partnership are perfectly suited for this high-conversion model.
